Return to Memorabilia

Tokyo Tower rose from the ashes of World War II, a striking and prominent symbol of Japan's emerging economic and industrial power. Completed in 1958, and modeled after the Eiffel Tower, it remains the tallest self-standing tower -- at 333 m high -- in the world. Beyond its popularity as a tourist attraction, Tokyo Tower also serves practical functions; it serves as an antenna for TV and FM radio broadcasts; the Tower even includes TV studios (at its first, large, observation level), and a restaurant (at the smaller top observation level). Tokyo Tower is located in Minato-ku, near Zozoji Temple and Shiba Park, one of the original five parks created in Edo during the Tokugawa era.
