Class Letter '09

Atlanta, GA is our new home...been here a 1.5 yrs.  It's been an incredible 18 mo that I hope/pray will subside now.  We moved from Mt Pleasant SC after adopting my 2nd daughter, Elizabeth, from China in Sept 07.  My parents and I moved here together into one house - WOW!  It's been good, but buying before the 'crash' and blending 2 houses has been quite a feat. :-}  I sold my house 6 mo ago, but my parents still have their house on the market in SC, [Anyone want a house 7 min from the beach just east of Charleston SC??? ^>^]  Adjusting to the merged house and a new daughter and a new job (Christian Educator, Central Presbyterian Church) was plenty, but after all the rounds of combating illnesses amongst each other after the move, my dad died of pneumonia last March.  His mind was sharp sharp until the end, but he'd had some stamina and other health issues that had slowed him down uncomfortably.  So - we've LIVED thru ALL the life changes/stresses we care to see, but my mom, the STEEL MAGNOLIA continues to be my model!

I am loving being in an incredibly open community here - Central is known as a social action church - and it feels good to be where there is more diversity.  Central is known as the church that opened it's doors to house people who came here for MLK, Jr's funeral and has also worked with the homeless for years.  ...it's an amazing place.

My brothers Shaw (class of 82) and Neil (class of 75) are well.  Shaw and his wife and 2 girls live and work in the Los Angeles area.  Neil and his wife, 2 grown kids, and 2 grandchildren live and work in Richmond, VA.

I am also working on my doctorate - Doctorate of Educational Ministry, at Columbia Theological Seminary here in Decatur GA.  It's a tough time to be in school, but I HOPEFULLY have just one year left.  I've been focusing on children and their families and worship - how we educate about worship and integrate families with children into worship.  I have LOVED the stimulation and learning again and yet look forward to having this DONE.

It's been fun to connect with a few of you on Facebook.  I hope others will note if they are on Facebook so we can 'friend' each other.  What an amazing tool for reconnecting with old friends and classmates!

We "try" to keep our blogspot up on pictures if not news on our family:  www.catherineslittlesister.blogspot.com. So check that link if you like.

That's enough...holler if you are in downtown Atlanta or the Decatur area.

Spring blessings to all,

Lynn
