Eiko Fukuda Gustavson

04/2009

I am currently teaching world history to undergraduates at Brooklyn College, a flagship campus of the City University of New York. I have also taught seniors from an "early college" high school that is part of the ongoing effort to restructure the NYC public school system.  Last summer I spent a week in Seattle, participating in a conference organized by the National Network for Educational Renewal, a liberal group that is committed to promoting partnerships between high schools and colleges.  I fell in love with the city and can envision moving out west sometime in the future.

This year, Gus and I went to London to visit my sister Haruko and see the sights.  It has been a good year for us, all in all. I've started attending a Methodist church, in my neighborhood, that has a history of social activism and ties to Nicaragua I was able to offer flowers in memory of my Methodist grandfather, Koichi Fukuda, who died as an evacuee in Karuizawa during WWII. Be sure you check-out the update from our old ASIJ chum, Inga Thommessen, in Denmark: She is still making music with that ethereal voice of hers after all of these years!  I've included her address in the address line () in case you don't have it and want to write to her.

Love and best wishes,

Eiko,
